How far away is death? Passenger lands plane

passenger lands plane

There’s a headline you never want to be involved with, “Passenger lands plane.”

Yet, it happened — the “passenger lands plane” situation occurred due to a medical emergency aboard a small plane flying from the Bahamas to West Palm Beach. The pilot suffered a life-threatening condition on the approach and the passenger had to take over the flight; the passenger landed the small plane. The plot and the male passenger were the only two aboard.

An ABC report, “Passenger forced to land plane after pilot has medical emergency while flying,” states the passenger began speaking to air traffic control, “My pilot has gone incoherent. I have no idea how to fly the airplane.” (You can hear this in the audio clip from the video in the link above.) According to the ABC report, “The person on the airplane who had no aeronautical experience listened very carefully and obviously followed instructions with great calm,” said aviation expert John Nance. “That’s what made the difference.”
